Dr Suresh Kattera is one of the pioneers in the field of IVF with more than 25 years of international experience in Clinical embryology and teaching. He was trained in clinical embryology in the USA, UK, Belgium and Italy and worked in various countries including Singapore where he was responsible for achieving highest pregnancies among all the IVF centres (Ministry of Health website Singapore). He has several achievements to his credit.

  1. In 2003, he reported the world’s first live birth after surgical enucleation (oocyte recorrection) of tri-pronuclear zygotes published in the prestigious journal; Human Reproduction. This led to use of this technique for the isolation of Stem cells from abnormally fertilised embryos due to ethical concerns.
  2. In 2003, he reported world’s first births from early rescue ICSI of conventional IVF fertilization failed oocytes published in the prestigious journal; Human Reproduction.
  3. In 2005, he reported for the first time in the world that there are 4 types of pronuclear zygote arrangements after fertilization that predicts implantation outcome, published in the prestigious journal: Fertility & Sterility
  4. In 2005, he reported for the first time in the world that frozen embryos have better implantation potential than fresh embryos (Published in the Fertility & Sterility Journal) which led to the current practice of freeze all embryos. This research work involved the formulations of novel freezing solutions.
  5. In 2009, he developed a novel device called SEP-D to process semen for IUI without the need for laboratory which is being used in many countries around the world.
  6. In 2001, he was a Team Member of the first ever ovarian tissue transplant performed in Singapore and probably in Asia.
  7. In 2016, he developed a new less expensive vitrification device; Vitpen to vitrify embryos which is being used in the embryology laboratories.
  8. In 2019, he developed an App; IVF-ECO which is the only kind in the world to bring all the stake holders in IVF; IVF Centres, Manufacturers/distributors and Patients together on a single platform

He has held the following positions.

  • Associate Professor in the Department of Microbiology, Manipal University India 1987-1994
  • Visiting Professor to the Department of Reproductive Medicine, Ramachandra University, from 2006-2009
  • Adjunct associate Professor in the University of Queensland, Australia from 2006-2009
  • Adjunct Professor in the LKC School of Medicine, a joint collaboration of NTU SingaporeImperial College London from 2013-2016
  • Director – Mysuru Fertility Center
